Sundance TV - The State of the Union

Director: Stephen Frears

Creator: Nick Hornby

Cast: Rosamund Pike, Chris O'Dowd

Episodic Category - Ten, 10-minute episodes

Tom (Chris O'Dowd) and Louise (Rosamund Pike) are going to marriage counseling while living separately. Each week they meet in the pub across the street from their therapist for a little bubbly prior to their session. Every week their therapy addresses a different topic relevant to their marriage. They decide its best if their stories coordinate on topic for the therapists sake. Each episode brings the audience closer to an understanding both Tom and Louise, what brought them together and the issues that drive them apart.

Nicky Hornby and Chris O'Dowd prior to the first screening joins a panel discussion at the Sundance TV Headquarters. The two in somewhat a jovial sarcasm enjoy setting-up the scenes up for the audience but mostly talked about how they both got into the industry and what continues to connect them to diverse projects as they mature. British director, Stephen Frears often directs films where there’s a love-triangle and/or a strong female lead. Both aspects surface in The State of the Union.
