This romantic drama tells the story of a woman starting a new life and finding new love after living through horrible events. The movie begins with Katie (Julianne Hough) fleeing from someone and a policeman (David Lyons) trying to catch her. She finds a new home in the peaceful town of Southport, North Carolina. There, she finds a job and soon falls in love with Alex (Josh Duhamel), who owns a small food store and is still mourning his wife’s death. But the shadows of Katie’s past are still haunting her and Katie, now wanted for murder, is not the only one who is not who she claims to be.
This movie was quite predictable, as expected with a Nicholas Sparks story, save for the little supernatural twist at the end. Characters are handsome or beautiful (or supposed to be) and have a black-and-white set of morals. Yet, this is not an unpleasant film if you are looking for an escapist and light retreat – you may even cry a bit at the end. But why is it that movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels always seem to contain a scene with the romantic couple getting wet in the rain? Is it his telltale sign of building chemistry?
