During a “family” barbecue, one mob boss, Don Luchese (Stan Carp) tries to assasinate another, Giovanni Manzoni (Robert De Niro). The Manzoni family survives and Giovanni decides to testify against Don Luchese and enter witness protection. The Manzoni family has been moving around for several years and finally settle in a lovely French village as the Blakes. The FBI is close by for their protection, lead by Agent Robert Stansfield (Tommy Lee Jones).

Giovanni begins his new life as Fred Blake by burying a body in the back yard. His wife Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer), who is not pleased by how the local supermarket staff treat her, can't resist leaving a small explosion behind. Like father, like son, teenager Warren (John D’Leo) marks his turf at school with fists and cash. Their daughter Belle (Dianna Agron) gets in the swing by backhanding an aggressive classmate who thought she was easy game. Not exactly the low profile that Agent Stansfield wants them to keep. A rather tongue in cheek humorous “family” film where the simple story line is kept taunt by the genius of De Niro who is well supported by the rest of the family. (Mary Nyiri)
