Do Not Resist
U.S.A. 2016

Opening 23 Feb 2017

Directed by: Craig Atkinson
Writing credits:

Director Craig Atkinson takes viewers into the dark, grotesque underbelly of the United States Police Department. Massive military vehicles that once roamed Iraq are now humming down Mayberry Street, U.S.A., with a population of 23K people. These police tank trucks are not the only things being heavily militarized. The SWAT teams are made up of a large percentage of ex-military personnel now armed with equipment used in battlefields. Atkinson follows the money trail to reveal who is paying for the mass militarization of the police: the U.S. tax payer. An estimated 40 billion dollars is given from the Department of Homeland Security and The Department of Defense to local law enforcement.

Do Not Resist is an ethnology of police brutality. It puts a blinding light on the leaders (FBI James Comey), politicians (city councils approving military vehicles and supplies) and police trainers (Dave Grossman) who are directly responsible for unnecessary corpses. Their lives were already helpless before any shot was fired into their unwanted, unloved body. There is a war. A war against the poor and unrepresented. (Marlane Wingo Nigbur)
