Directed by: Melina Matsoukas

Principal actors: Daniel Kaluuya, Jodie Tuner-Smith

As a first date, things were not really going all that well. Slim (Daniel Kaluuya) seemed a bit out of his depth with the arrogant attorney called Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith). They leave the diner and Slim is driving Queen home when he swerves the car while trying to get his cellphone out of Queen’s hand. A police siren sounds. The black couple is pulled over. The white officer, who declares the driver did not use a turn signal and swerved, so he suspects driving under the influence, demands that Slim get out of the car. Queen jumps out, identifying herself as an attorney and shots are fired. Queen & Slim are now fugitives and embark on a road trip that brings them closer together. Their encounter with the cop was caught on video and goes viral, sparking protests against police brutality and making Queen & Slim folk stars for taking a grand stand against an out of line, aggressive officer. Along the way, they encounter sympathetic help and betrayal. Buckle up, it’s a wild ride. (Mary Nyiri)
