The Cakemaker
Israel/Germany 2017

Opening 1 Nov 2018

Directed by: Ofir Raul Graizer
Writing credits: Ofir Raul Graizer
Principal actors: Tim Kalkhof, Sarah Adler, Roy Miller, Zohar Shtrauss, Sandra Sade

Thomas (Tim Kalkhof) has a pastry shop in Berlin, where he meets his lover Oran (Roy Miller), who is often on business from Israel. Oran’s family knows nothing of his bi-sexuality. Sadly, Oran dies in a car accident at home and Thomas, deep in mourning, travels to Jerusalem where Oran’s wife Anat (Sarah Adler) runs a café. He offers to work for her, without disclosing that he has had a prior connection to the family. Not surprisingly, his German cakes are the best in town; the café is a huge success. Anat gradually opens up to Thomas; they become more than friends. Naturally, this would be too simple, so there are little hitches. Some guests dislike Germans in general; baking must follow kosher regulations; Oran’s relatives have opinions. And overall hovers the past with the secret of the forbidden relationship.

This is director Ofir Raul Graizer’s first long feature film and played in many festivals including the 2017 Filmfest Hamburg. (Becky Tan)
